Holiday Gift Guide: Skincare Edition

Let's face it, skincare is a touchy subject when it comes to gift-giving. Unless you know the person by heart, you don't want to give something which may potentially offend the recipient. Anything that connotes criticism is a big no-no to moi (anti-perspirant, anti-acne, anti-dandruff, anti-fungal). But this minor setback shouldn't hinder you from shopping because nothing beats radiant and clear skin this time of the year! So sit back, sip your pumpkin spice latte and scroll down for my suggestions...

Holiday Gift Guide, Skincare, Clarisonic, Murad Environmental Shield, Jurlique, The Body Shop Seaweed Mask, L'Occitane, MD Solarsciences

Great skin starts with clean skin. If budget is not an issue, Clarisonic MIA is a good investment. I have MIA 2, a gift to myself two Christmases ago. This holiday set sold at Sephora features MIA 3 and five skincare products in deluxe sizes.

Ideal for all skin types, Murad Environmental Shield line addresses aging, impurities, hyperpigmetation and dryness. I have tried the cleanser, moisturizer with spf, serum which has Vitamin C (promotes radiance, protects agains free radicals, supports collagen production ) and lightening serum which has hydroquinone (lightens dark spots) and glycolic acid (sloughs off dead skin cells). This introductory set (deluxe sizes) is a great way to try Murad.

Murad |  $39.95

Facial mask makes a great present as well. I don't know of any woman who doesn't enjoy some "me time". The Body Shop has several masks that cater to every skin type but this seaweed clay mask remains a personal favorite.

A great mid-day or afternoon spritz is sometimes all you need to break the monotony of office work (I always keep one in my drawer)! Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist tones and hydrates the skin like second nature.

Glowing but not greasy is the best way I can describe my recent favorite body oil from L'Occitane, it's called Fleur d'Or and Acacia Luminous. It's moisturizing and lightweight, and the sweet floral fragrance is very subtle and relaxing (I also use it for my hair to tame frizz and add shine). I am so enamored by it that I purchased the EDT version.

Sunscreen should never be a summer-only thing. Even at the peak of winter, harmful UV rays are omnipresent. MDSolarSciences Mineral Tinted Cream is a multi-tasker because it works both as a makeup primer and sunscreen with ingredients derived from natural sources.

  7. I'd be likely to put together a group of Japanese & Korean skincare:
    - Rohto Hada Labo Gokujyun Super Hyaluronic Lotion (moisturizing toner/lotion)
    - Rohto Hada Labo Shirojyun Albutin Milk (lightens dark spots/emulsion)
    - Mizon Snail Repair Eye Cream
    - Rohto Hada Labo UV Creamy Gel SPF 50/PA ++++ (really good sunscreen, inexpensive, can't feel it/no white cast)
Or, l'Occitane hand creams--almond and cherry blossom

  15. You have excellent taste!! I agree, if I got anti-wrinkle or acne cream, I might be a little miffed!!!! My grandmother got me a Clinique facial set years ago and it was my favorite to date!! Skincare gift sets I don't mind but you're right, if you don't know the person, a target product might be a good way to make an enemy :-P
