Anastasia Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette: Review, Swatches & FOTD

A recently-released eyeshadow palette, the Modern Renaissance from Anastasia Beverly Hills is an amalgamation of sultriness and high-voltage pigment with modern-day take on conservative neutral and berry tones. Read further for full details, swatches and one-brand look featuring Anastasia.

Retailing for $42, this stunning eyeshadow palette features 14 shades in varying neutral and berry tones. Approach-wise, the conservative color choices appeal more to the older demographics, a smart move by the brand to separate itself from the loud and upbeat summer palettes toying the beauty aisles. It has 11 mattes and 3 shimmers which allows you to create basic and smoldering looks or anything in between. All the shades apply and blend without problem. The formula is quite powdery though so tapping your eyeshadow brush is recommended before applying (my habit is to use the back of my hand where I lightly dip the excess product).

This palette is presented in a sturdy cardboard type packaging with velvet mauve-purple cover and magnetic closure. It comes with a decent-sized mirror and double-ended eyeshadow brush for blending and contouring. I must admit, the berries look intimidating to wear so I'm going to leave it for nighttime looks or certain events where I can express myself more creatively.

My favorite shades are Primavera (shimmery gold), Buon Fresco (mauve lavender matte ), Antique Bronze (metallic sable), Warm Taupe (matte), Raw Sienna (matte) and  Cyprus Umber (dark coffee matte).

For my makeup below, I used Warm Taupe for my eyebrows, Primavera on lids, Vemeer on inner eye corner and lower lash line, Raw Sienna on crease, Cyprus Umber on crease and lower lash line, and Tempera on brow arch. For that proverbial summer glow, I used Anastasia Glow Kit That Glow (reviewed here). I finished with Anastasia Liquid Lipstick Kathryn (reviewed here).

  7. You're a knockout! I think this is an interesting palette. For me, I would only use the neutrals, and I guess I'd try to use the reds as blush. But I'd love to see what they look like as shadows on someone who can wear reds on their eyes
