By now, you already know that Marsala is the color of 2015. But what in the world is Marsala? I don't remember it in my kindergarten Crayola years, do you? For quick reference, Pantone LLC describes Marsala as earthy wine red. In my opinion, it's a mature color compared to 2014's radiant orchid, 2013's emerald green, and so on. With that said, it does appeal to a niche group: older, refined, timeless, just like wine!
I gotta be honest, my first reaction upon learning Marsala is to buy anything that's an exact match to it, makeup-wise. But I just decluttered not too long ago so impulse-buying isn't the best way to start 2015 right? (ask me again next month, haha!). Plus, Sephora has this Marsala-inspired product ideas which helped me probe into my stash. Long story short, I held off because I do own, albeit unknowingly, some makeups that can pass for marsala and/or compliment it without going overboard. After all, makeup is about exploring, experimenting, and having fun. And just like other statement colors, the key to wearing Marsala is to wear it in harmony.
Color. On lips, Marsala is a beautiful brownish pink, dusty rose or reddish plum, depending on your lips' pH. Start searching your vanity because I found four, they are (reviews are linked):

Compliment. Whether you're feeling monochromatic or not, amp up your Marsala vibe via cheeks or eyes. Apply light-handedly for a more polished and sophisticated look. I'm glad to have rediscovered the following gems (reviews are linked):

Here's my simple FOTD ala- Marsala
Do you like Marsala? if so, did you purchase anything inspired by it? enable me!
If it had more purple, less brown, I'd be on board with it. It looks lovely on you though!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yeah, I know you love bolder and trendier shades
DeleteLOVE the lippie in your picture. gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura
DeleteBeautiful FOTD. The lipstick is beautiful. For some reason, I always loved the Rouge Interdits more than the Le Rouges.
ReplyDeleteThanks Renu. I understand 'coz Interdit has more slip to it vs. Le Rouge
DeleteYou wear it so well!!
ReplyDeleteMahalo
DeleteGorgeous look! I'm loving the Pantone color of the year this year. Wine all the things.
ReplyDeleteyes, wine everything!!!
DeleteI have to admit I'm not super excited about this color choice from Pantene -- just not really up my alley. But of course you look gorgeous with this lippie!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jamie. I like it but not as much as 2013 emerald green
DeleteI love marsala, and I have to go through my stash to see what I already own that could fit the trend. I know not everyone loves it, but it is a perfect shade for me. And I think it looks gorgeous on you!
ReplyDeleteIt does cater to specific demographics. I like it too
DeleteLove how you're rockin the Marsala! The Naked 3 palette looks like a great palette for this year's color.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nidia. Yeah, Naked 3 is a good palette to compliment it
DeleteMarsala is an amazing shade for you! Very refined indeed.
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks much!
DeleteI think my biggest happiness regarding this new colour of the year is that I might *finally* be able to find some new clothing/accessories to match my favourite dress shoes. Because who buys wine coloured suede pumps when they've got almost nothing to wear with them? This girl.
ReplyDeleteCasablanca is awesome, and I think it might turn out to be my colour of the year regardless of how it fits in with Pantone's plans for world domination.
Haha! I hear ya! But hey, that shade is a great statement for shoes/pumps!
DeleteGorgeous look, and I love your lippie you're wearing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jessica!
Deletelooks good on you. Marsala just isn't the shade for me though I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteIt's not for everyone but you'll never know...
DeleteYou SO make this work. Especially that lip color.
ReplyDeleteYou are sooo sweet. Thanks!
DeleteOoh these are all great picks! I'm so happy with this shade
ReplyDeleteGood to now you like this shade
DeleteI am on board with your interpretation of this trend. I am thinking that one facial feature picked out in Marsala at a time, others wearing complimentary shades and tones will do the trick. I have seen full on Marsala on eyes, cheeks and lips and I think it would just eat me alive. LOL
ReplyDeleteNever a fan of matchy-matchy especially because it's on "trend". I don't think I'll look good all-out Marsala, overkill!
DeleteLove that you searched your makeup collection for products that worked with this trend rather than impulse-shopping ... not that that would have been a horrible thing ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah, starting the year frugal....let's talk next month, haha!
DeleteI think marsala is a great color that just about anybody can pull off. Great picks!
ReplyDeleteI agree w/ you!
DeleteThose are all great picks !
ReplyDeleteLove the shades! All are right up my comfortable alley :)
ReplyDeleteI think that Marsala is one of the most wearable trends ever. You look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLove how you used the shades! Going to need that MJ eyeliner for sure :D
ReplyDeleteThat color was basically made for you!
ReplyDeleteThe Urban Decay Naked palette is a staple in my collection, love the color selection. Nice Post
