Second to Fall, Spring releases excite me. Soft and tender, there is an air of innocence that seems to resonate from the deepest recesses of my emotion. It's a stark contrast from Fall's dark and beguiling vibe; a tad hard to elaborate but if you are in touch with your inner self, I know some of you share the same affect.
Speaking of innocence, Guerlain Beauty is Spring-ready for us luxe makeup enthusiasts! Featuring six products from its Les Tenders Spring 2015 collection, I ordered Meteorites Compact 3 Medium and Kiss Kiss Lipstick in 560 Rosy Silk. Two bellas I am dying to try to perk me up from winter's gloom.
If you love the cult-favorite meteorites but find the packaging too bulky and inconvenient to carry around for travel or touch-ups, you will be happy to know that they are now available in compact! I'm quite late to the party of meteorites but after my positive experience from last year's holiday edition, I don't mind adding this to my stash, here's why.
Packaging-wise, Guerlain wowed me again in infinite proportion. While it's made from plastic and prone to fingerprints, this silver compact is hefty, snaps magnetically and has decent-sized mirror. The velvet pouch is a nifty addition especially if you're concerned with scratches and whatnot.
This powder compact comes in three shades: Clair/Light, Medium, Dore/Golden. I settled for Medium to be on the safe side as there are no Guerlain counters in my local Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom. This particular compact is supposed to render subtle illumination with its genius fusion of matte and pearly hues which reduce redness, color-correct, refresh and brighten the complexion. Swirled and buffed light-handedly on the face, it renders just the right amount of luminosity. I use it as a finishing touch to BB cream or foundation. It's finely-milled and does not settle into pores, guaranteed. Similar to most Guerlain face products, this compact has that distinguishable tiare fragrance which I adore. In comparison to the original pearl meteorites ($60, 0.88 oz), this compact obviously cost more with less product in it ($62, 0.35 oz). It's a marketing tactic for all you know, "reinvent the packaging and offer convenience as unique selling proposition". After all, Guerlain has a loyal clientele base regardless. I bit the bullet expectedly.
If you know me well enough, I tend to gravitate towards vampy and dark lipsticks. However I'm also the type who axe my own predictability. Kiss Kiss 560 Rosy Silk seems to be the paradisiac hue to rock for spring, don't you think so?
Gut-feel was wrong all along. While it appears to be a beautiful salmon pink with specks of gold, I didn't like the combination of grit and slip on my lips. Wear time is short-lived, two hours at the most. While color choice is relative (you may like nudes more than I do), the formula used for Rosy Silk is certainly not the best out there. I love Guerlain lippies but Kiss Kiss Rosy Silk didn't impress me.
For my photo below, I am wearing Guerlain Lingerie de Peau BB Beauty under Meteorites Compact Medium and of course Kiss Kiss Rosy Silk lipstick, be my fabulous judge.

I didn't expect that lippie to be so sheer and pink - it looks almost neon in the tube! It looks beautiful on you, but for that kind of money, it's more about the feel of it, though - that color isn't unique enough to not wear like buttah. I wish I had gotten the Meteorites before they were redesigned. A lot of reviews I've read say that the new 'ballz' are too powdery and don't last as long. Are these compacts any less powdery?
ReplyDeleteYes, lippy is so sheer, grit is another thing. Yes this compact is not powdery. I like it a lot
DeleteWOW that lippie is stunning!! I may have to pick it up. I'm also lemming the quad that is neutral... I'm too lazy to look up how to spell the name but I know you know what I mean lol
ReplyDeleteLOL, I know what you mean. I may get it eventually :-)
DeleteI've always been interested in the Guerlain meteorites. I only own their bronzing powder. Maybe I can stop by a counter to see what Dore/Golden would look like on me.
ReplyDeleteVisiting your local store is the best decision. Wish we have one here in HI
DeleteI'm extremely intimidated by compacts like this. I feel like I just flat don't know how to use them properly with all the colors!
ReplyDeleteYou use it like a regular powder, just swirl and buff
DeleteWhile the lipstick was a disappointing formula and texture, I have to say that the color is just GORGEOUS on you! Don't get me wrong, I love the ultra pigmented lipsticks that you wear, but I also really love shades like this on you as well! You look AMAZING, my beautiful friend!
ReplyDeleteThanks much friend! You are so nice w/ your comment. Yes, I love me some neutral lippy once in a great while :-))
DeleteThe Meteorites compact is so pretty. I too would have been seduced by the Kiss Kiss salmon gold lipstick. The color of the bullet makes it look so saturated and creamy. The shade would have been way too light for me. I would have been so disappointed, too.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's the thing w/ online purchase, I can it return in 'tho I'm just too lazy to go the post office....
DeleteI just bit the bullet and ordered the compact yesterday! Really looking forward to it. Wow, that lipstick looks so different in the tube and on the lips!
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you liked it!!!
DeleteThat compact is adorable! The lippie is a little more sheer than I expected!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, you look so beautiful with these products on! <3 So natural! <3
ReplyDeleteThanks much. xo
DeleteThe packaging is stunning!
ReplyDeleteI loved the original Meteorites so much that I bought a compact (the holiday Crazy 69 one) and lost it at an airport!! Now I can buy a replacement- this new Meteorites compact is a must for me. Just can't convince myself to splurge on the Voyage packaging and I don't want to carry around just the powder. Any recommendations on preferred brush to use with the compact Meteorites?
ReplyDeleteHi Kirsten, I think you'll enjoy the ease of use/ convenience of this compact. I use just a regular powder brush, nothing fancy :-)
DeleteI am SOOO excited for Spring makeup! Its my favorite season!
ReplyDeleteMeteorites looks super cool - but I'm such a novice that I'm worried about using it wrong!
ReplyDeleteIt's foolproof, believe me!
DeleteThe compact looks great. I love the sheer lipstick look on you.
ReplyDeletePure gorgeousness! Love the lipstick shade on you.
ReplyDeleteAll the luxe. All the pretty. I die.
ReplyDeleteThat compact is to die for! I love everything Guerlain.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteI was very surprised how sheer it went on!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that the lippie didn't show up more pigmented. I never would have expected it to be this sheer!
ReplyDeleteYeah it was rather sheer to my taste :-(
DeleteEven tho it's not very pigmented, the lipstick is really pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe items are amazing I love it :) Even if it isn't so pigmented.
ReplyDeleteHey Kathryne, I just read your blog from about two years ago on the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light and wanted to know how you thought it compares to this new Guerlain Meteorites Compact. I think I am similar skin tone to you maybe a wee bit more neutral but still quite yellow. Just can't decide which one to go for!? Cheers, Ella
ReplyDeleteHi Ella, thanks for stopping by. Great question! Formula-wise, Hourglass is more powdery than Guerlain Meteorites Compact. Meteorites has a little bit more sheen to it but still workable even for those w/ oily face. I would say Hourglass is more of a setting powder, Guerlain Compact is finishing powder. I hope that answers your question. I am an enabler unfortunately and I love both, tbh! xox
