Transitioning to Fall | Beauty and Style Trends

Fall 2017 Beauty and Style Trends
Fall excites me more than any season. It's the cozy autumnal vibe, cooler nights, shorter days. It puts me in a happy spirit, especially in anticipation of the forthcoming holidays. I know, it's too anticlimactic but I'm old school like that. Fall is also the time to welcome trends by embracing a simplified routine, beauty and lifestyle-wise.

Natural makeup is at it again. Despite all the artsy, out-of-this world makeup trends that's flooding your Instagram or Facebook feed, simple easygoing look is your best bet this Fall. Wavy brows, McDonald brows, yes they look trendy this Halloween but for a day to day look, strut your best features forward. My top 3 must-haves: clean canvass (lightweight foundation), lengthy lashes and kissable berry lips.

Tackle the sunspots. Fall is the perfect time to get rid of sunspots either thru laser or intense pulse light. Sun spots result from years of sun exposure sans protection. If you just recently intensified your skincare regimen, welcome aboard! Better late to the party than continue to neglect the body's largest organ. Sunscreen is your number one ally in reducing incidence of sunspots (including photo damage and melanoma). While certain skincare ingredients like AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids i.e lactic acid, glycolic acid), vitamin C, over the counter hydroquinone 2%, retinol can help lighten those spots, note that they will not result to dramatic reduction especially if you are dealing with darker spots. Hyperpigmentation presents in a variety of conditions: post inflammatory, melasma, nevoid, among others so it is important to see a qualified medical professional, doctor or dermatologist before commencing any treatment. Laser or IPL targets pigment so if you have precancerous spots, it may go undetected so proceed with caution.

Flat wavy hair is the new big hair don't care. When I read from Cosmopolitan that it's a trend as seen from Fendi, I was ecstatic! I have natural waves that's crazy in the middle with flat crown that annoys the hell out of me but I am fully embracing this trend! Quick hack for you ladies: use curling or hair strengthener and do a quick curl or bend mid-way then flatten your top as you please. I think this hairstyle combined with minimal makeup will be my "I-woke-up-like-dis" look no?

Keep it minimal. Slide into Fall. Black is a staple in my wardrobe so whether it's a trend or not, you know I am wearing it. But let's talk about slides. I never really liked pool slides because they don't flatter my small feet but I love slide sandals, especially the pair I am wearing! I had these for a while now (Louise Et Cie Bonnie flat sandal), the exact color is sold out at Nordstrom but you can find it in a different color at DSW on sale. So yes, don't hide your slide sandals yet until it's bootie time (it sounds sleazy but you know what I am talking about right?!)

I thought of adding these two bottom pics to give you an idea what happens behind-the-scene, in my attempt to answer a very nice comment left on one of my Instagram photos (someone thought I am using a photographer for my portrait shots, wish I could though!). Camera on tripod, the other other hand holding a remote control (or sometimes self-timer if I want to use both hands for action). Another fixture is my constant buddy, my furry baby dog. So yes, I take lots and lots of photos because you can never have too many.

  9. I really needed that hairstyle to be in. I was calling it the "I'm fed up with doing my hair only to wreck it at the gym" look.

  10. I wonder if I could do flat waves...generally I have to straighten it first with blow dry, flat iron, and then go back in with a curling iron. I have really tight kinks in my hair at the scalp.

  18. I agree, fall is the start of a simplified skin care routine before battling out the winter dryness and after dealing with the summer oiliness!

  19. I've never been a fan of those type of shoes. They aren't very flattering and are uncomfortable. I do agree with your minimal makeup tho, less is always best.
