Last Saturday, I officially embraced my holiday break with a much deserved and totally rejuvenating massage and spa at the recently opened Four Seasons Resort Naupaka Spa at Ko'olina. It's time to pamper the workaholic moi and what better way than to soak in all the goodness a spa could offer, right? And before you and I get carried away, make sure to sign up for Groupon because that's how I got this amazing deal (referral link). If you live in Oahu, Hawai'i, you can get 10% Kamaaina discount, just present your ID at the reception. So grab a drink, sit back and let me be your virtual tour guide for today!
Entrance to Naupaka Spa & Wellness Center |
What's in a name? Naupaka is a common plant found near the beaches of Hawai'i; its "half-flower" appearance makes it distinct because it is missing petals to form a whole flower. According to the brochure, Naupaka Spa uses native plants in their products. The five-story building where the spa is located is tucked away from the hotel itself, look to your right before you reach the driveway, that's where it is.
The reception area is modern-minimalist, my kind of style.
As I gladly filled out the health form, the receptionist welcomed me with a kombucha drink (fermented sweetened black/green tea).
We trekked two flights down and was assigned a locker. Jenny asked me my shoe size, it's 5 so she gave me locker #5, clever haha! The spa has separate areas for males and females. Come in two-piece swimsuit, optional but better bring it so you can enjoy the facilities. More on that later.
This is the hallway leading to the sauna. The first right is for the lockers, second right to dressing/ touch-up area. Third right is the shower/ restroom. We'll go there in a while.
Spacious and tropical chic, my eyes feasted on the interiors.
All their bath and body products are lightly-fragrant. Nothing offensive or migraine-inducing.
Every little nook has refreshments. Cucumber water anyone?
Yes, I had this jacuzzi all to myself. The warm salt water massaging my back was nirvana. I was literally singing "all by myself" and sent a video to my husband, including my mom and sister who are in the mainland and complaining of freezing weather.
This one is way too cold for me.
Solo flight at the steam room.
Shower before massage.
I had few minutes to spare so I went straight to the waiting room.
Then I got called, right on the dot, 10 am.
Allyson was my massage therapist; we had little chit chat like where she had her lash extensions done and whatnot, you know, girl talk! I chose lilikoi/ passionfruit scent for my oil and told her to concentrate on my back area and that I prefer medium pressure. She was amazing in all of 50 minutes!
Upon exiting the massage room, I was greeted by Allyson with a glass of champagne. Woe me because I have alcohol allergy so I just took this photo for esthetics, haha!
This is the outside waiting area. One of the nice things about this spa is that you can use all their facilities for a day so I stayed for about 1.5 hours more, just enjoying uninterrupted me-time.
I decided to stay inside the waiting area. I sat far back near the plant you see from the photo. Wrong decision because I noticed one small mosquito bite at the side of my face after.
I didn't have breakfast because I anticipated these treats. I had one pumpkin bread and hot jasmine tea
After a short nap, I decided to check out the pool located on the 5th floor. I didn't bring sunscreen so I was under the umbrella the entire time.
You can access the pool by elevator or foot. There's also a salon near the pool area. I will check that out some time in the future.
And just for visual reference, you can view Aulani Disney from the 5th floor/ pool area.
And that concludes my tour ladies and gents! I give it two thumbs up. The interiors and accommodations in Naupaka are a tad better than Aulani (reviewed here). Although both offer full-day access to facilities when you book for any service, I enjoyed Naupaka more because it wasn't as crowded. I felt like a diva for a day with all the amenities to myself! I am definitely going back, I also promised my mom that I'll bring her here when she visits me next summer.
Back massages are my favourite, what a great deal! Glad you enjoyed yourself, I think I need some spa time now haha, thanks for sharing x
