What Cinema Secrets says "an oil-free, ultra-fine loose setting powder for a natural-looking matte finish. Keep your makeup in place with this lightweight, oil-absorbing powder that sets your foundation for all-day wear. Enriched with anti-inflammatory agents and antioxidant to fight free radicals, it leaves a smooth, shine-free finish that’s perfect for all skin types".
What Laura Mercier says "A transparent, weightless powder to set undereye concealer, brighten dark circles, and diminish signs of visible fine lines. Create the appearance of the most naturally perfected skin, while maximizing the wear and coverage of makeup. This transparent white setting powder brightens, lightens, and boosts luminosity. Formulated with light-reflecting micronized pigments, this super-soft weightless powder delivers a soft radiant finish, never settling in fine lines, accentuating shadows, or building up on skin".
What I say: "In terms of value for money, it's Cinema Secrets since you're getting more product for a lesser cost compared to Laura Mercier. While both contains mineral-based ingredients, I like Cinema Secrets better because it uses tapioca starch (environmentally friendly and safe for use) and mica (safer than talc, gives a radiant look). Laura Mercier on the other hand uses talc (good in oil absorption but whether it's safe or not in cosmetics is debatable) and silica (prevents caking). In terms of overall finish and quality, I prefer Cinema Secrets because it does not make my under eyes desert-dry. It also helps my makeup stay in place all day without depleting the moisture underneath".
What's your favorite setting powder?
I didn't realize that Cinema Secrets made a setting powder but it makes sense. I think I have both talc-based and starch-based powders, and both kinds do well for me. I try to avoid talc but sometimes it does the job and is worth using but I love how you pointed out the pros and cons
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see this comparison for sure!
ReplyDeleteThe Cinema Secrets powder sounds really nice. They make my HG brush cleaner. I'm glad to see that they have a nice powder too! Thanks for the comparison.
ReplyDeleteThe Cinema Secrets seems like it will last you for years. I haven't been using translucent powder lately even though I have many. My favorites are IT Cosmetics and Purely Cosmetics Diamond powder.
ReplyDeleteCinema Secrets is a great and underrated brand!
ReplyDeleteSeveral of my MUA friends like Cinema Secrets. You know I am not big on powder but my most recent LOVE is the Scott Barnes pressed powder, to die for and perfect for the finish touch on a LOTD makeup.
ReplyDeleteI have and love Laura Mercier, but didn't know about Cinema Secrets. Will have to try it out - it sounds healthier, and cost-effective is always a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI really need to try this powder. You had me at "better than Laura Mercier!"
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that it beat Laura Mercier!!!!!! That's amazing, and it's incredible that it is not only better, but more affordable! Great find, twinsy!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like good powder. I wonder how it would stack up to my favorite Nars loose setting powder.
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many good things about this powder from Cinema Secrets. I appreciate your candid review. Good to know about the ingredients. I'm always up for a safer/healthier option. I also have dry under eyes, so I'd prefer the more moisturizing powder for sure.
ReplyDeleteCinema Secrets is a brand I haven't used since back in my Makeup Artist days and they had a setting powder that I loved, I think the same as this, but different packaging. I love to see that other people use them as much.
ReplyDeleteWow, never heard of this brand, but that looks like an amazing translucent powder. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for a good translucent powder. I just brought my Nars one back to the store because I couldn't get it out of the pan. I ended up buying one by Clinique but I am very curious about these two.
ReplyDeleteYou know... I haven't ever tried Cinema Secrets but always wanted to!
