My lipstick obsession no longer requires a prologue. It is what it is, lipstick is my kryptonite. I get easily persuaded by ritzy packaging coupled with resplendent brand experience. Marc Jacobs happens to be one so it was an easy decision for me to try some lippies from the newly-lauched collections, New Nudes Lip Sheer Gel (Understudy), Le Marc Lip Creme (Magenta), Exclusive VIB Rouge Le Marc Lip Creme (So Rouge), and (P)outliner Longwear Lip Pencil (Nude)ist.
In time for Spring 2015, these new lip products are quite extensive, shade selection-wise. Le Marc Lip Creme (black case, $30, 0.12oz) is available in twenty hues ranging from neutrals to reds to pinks to berries. So Rouge (red case, $30, 0.12oz) is also from Le Marc Lip Creme line albeit exclusive to Sephora VIB Rouge members. New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel (nude case, $30, 0.12oz) is sold in seven shades catering to neutral-loving bellas. Finally, there is (P)Outliner Longwear Lip Pencil ($24, 0.01oz) which comes in three colors. I picked up one from each collection to try, play with, and indulge without guilt.
Let's start with the most attractive "lady in red", 240 So Rouge. A limited edition available to the elite VIB Rouge a.k.a beauty junkiest junkie, this lipstick commands attention without even trying (prepare to turn heads zillas). It is a true red shade with semi-matte finish and remarkable longevity. It has the same creamy texture as Cabaret LoveMarc Lip Gel, another VIB Rouge exclusive released in 2014. Encased in red tube which clicks/closes magnetically, this fiery beauty easily gained stellar status in my ever- expanding red must-haves. The only con (across all Marc Jacobs lippies) is the semi-round tip which makes it quite challenging when you swipe directly from the tube. Let's just say that the shape of the tip is not congruent to the shape of my lips. Geometry talk, but hey, it matters to a lipstick enthusiast who can't be bothered by such triviality.
A surprisingly love-at-first-glide, Marc Jacobs New Nudes Lip Sheer Gel Understudy is a stunning peachy pink which grips the lips with a not-so-sheer pigment. Sure it's an antipode to the name but I love it, especially when layered over a nude lipliner. It has a semi-gloss finish with moisturizing properties. I also adore the creamy beige case, you can tell that there's a lot of thought processing involved during product development.
My predilection towards berry shade has grown dramatically, so much so that it has officially surpassed red and pink #sowhat Let's factor in Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Creme Magenta. True to its name, it is dark plum with velvety texture and hydrating component. While it claims to last for ten hours, it isn't so unless you don't eat and starve yourself all in the name of color preservation, haha! Of course it's gone after a meal but with a pretty shade like this, reapplication ain't a problem to this girly!
I admit, I'm not big on lip-lining, it's the extra step that I dread. I know I can survive the apocalypse without it (are you excited for the return of TWD, I'm hella!) but before the undead walk the earth, might as well give it a chance, haha! Marc Jacobs (P)Outliner Longwear Lip Pencil looks like Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon (highly raved here, here, here, and here). (Nude)ist is plain nude, a twist-up type which has ultra-creamy texture. While I love the extra-dimension it renders, lip liners in general won't change my frame of thought: just another step to prolong wear time which is a relative preference dictated by experience and activity. Ergo, it's nice to have if you're feeling sassy with le MJ.
Have you tried anything from Marc Jacobs? which one is your favorite?
So Rouge is right up my alley!

DeleteYass! Thanks for those reviews Kath! I was looking into grabbing a couple new lip sheers, but wasn't sure if I was going to like them, considering that sheer lippies can be VERY sheer sometimes. Now I'm convinced that they're pigmented enough, at least the one you got sure is :)
ReplyDeleteyou know what these "sheers" reminded me? those Tom Ford "sheers" because they aren't sheer at all.
DeleteI am totally interested in picking up the nude line
ReplyDeleteyes, they're nice!

ReplyDeleteThe magenta one is my jam. That rounded tip is so retro. I like one sharp side of the lippie to line with, so that's a turnoff for me.
