Last week, I shared my Tom Ford Beauty stash featuring Pussycat and Velvet Cherry from the new Tom Ford Lip Color Matte collection. Given my proclivity for dark and daring shades, I ordered Black Dahlia in a heartbeat. Was it a wise decision? scroll down for more details, photos and final verdict.
As earlier noted, Tom Ford released brand spanking new shades for its widely-anticipated matte lip color line (6 permanent, 2 limited edition). Black Dahlia happens to be one of the limited edition so better stock up if this hue is right up your alley.
Black Dahlia is quite an intimidating yet alluring dark wine shade. It's not for the faint of heart but if you want attention without even trying, this is the perfect lippy to rock especially this time of the year. Personally, it reminds me of the 90s when raisin puckers was hugely popular!
Formula-wise, lipstick aficionados know that mattes tend to dry out lips and emphasize cracks. While Tom Ford has perfected the art of fusing matte and hydration, I still encourage lip exfoliation before wearing Black Dahlia. Because of its solid pigmentation, it does underscore every lip line, nook and cranny if you may, which can be quite unforgiving #noexaggeration
Despite the trivial con, there is more to love with Tom Ford Lip Color Matte Black Dahlia: creamy texture, outstanding wear time (six hours sans eating), budge-proof, luxe feel and ambrosial fragrance.
Do you actually need Black Dahlia if you already own Tom Ford Bruised Plum or Black Orchid? Lola's Secret Beauty Blog posted a side-by-side comparison. Frankly speaking, don't ask an enabler like moi because my predictable answer will be "a girl can never have too many lipsticks; like red, berry can be interpreted in hundred and one shades". Excuses, excuses, haha! Here's a living proof featuring vampy berries from my stash (reviews are linked). Beside Black Dahlia is Velvet Cherry, also from the Tom Ford Lip Color Matte. It's not berry but a deep dark red. I purposely included it just for gradient reference.
Givenchy Violine Precieux is berry rose
Marc Jacobs Cabaret is true plum
Charlotte Tilbury Night Crimson is red plum
Gucci Luxurious Tiger Lily is holo plum with pink and blue flecks
