Exfoliation is an integral part of my skincare regimen. I do it three times a week to unclog pores and purge impurities. However, I'm extremely fussy when it comes to exfoliants: I loathe anything abrasive and discard those that are too gentle. I want to feel some grit but not to the point of scratchy. Will Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant please me? read further for the deets!
Made from rice-based formula which activates upon contact with water, Daily Microfoliant ($52, 2.6 oz) is Dermalogica's long-term best seller. I had the opportunity to try it out myself and was delighted with the texture, feel, and outcome.
Ingredients: Microcrystalline Cellulose, Magnesium Oxide, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Colloidal Oatmeal, Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Allantoin, Papain, Salicylic Acid, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, PCA, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Populus Tremuloides Bark Extract, Cyclodextrin, Lauryl Methacrylate/Glycol Dimethacrylate Crosspolymer, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Limonene, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Citric Acid, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891) , Hexylene Glycol.
Unknown to most of us, rice has several benefits on the skin. Rice bran is rich in antioxidants while rice water soothes the skin and helps heal acne. During a trip to Japan in the late 90s, Dermalogica founder Jane Wurwand noticed the very bright and supple hands of women working in rice fields. Intrigued, she shared her experience and vision with Dr. Diana Howard, Dermalogica's VP of Research & Development. In 2001, Daily Microfoliant was launched.
Unlike other facial exfoliants I have tried in the past, this brand is lather-free. Upon contact with water, it transforms into a creamy paste with minute rice particles. I can feel the grit minus the harshness. For maximum exfoliation, I rub it onto my face in circular motion for one minute and then rinse. It leaves my skin feeling taut, clean and virtually grease-free as the day progresses. My only complain is its dispensing mechanism (similar to salt/pepper shaker) as I find myself using more than what is needed, waste not want not....
Bottom line, if you're looking for a dermatologist-tested exfoliant that does the job as it claims, Daily Microfoliant is worth checking out.

ReplyDeleteHuh! This is pretty awesome. How do you get it out of the bottle - do you just shake a little into your hand? I feel like my skin is pretty sensitive to exfoliants, but I like the idea of a lather-free cleanser!
