Tom Ford Beauty fan? Love a great matte lipstick? Wish granted. In time for the holidays, the geniuses behind the brand finally launched what you and I have been waiting for...eight new colors (2 limited edition, 6 permanent) in velvet matte formula, all with superb pigmentation and impressive longevity. Ready to splurge? dive in for more details, photos and swatch comparison.
For the love of name. Salivating like a hungry hyena, I purchased two shades from the newly-launched line because of their catchy names ($50, Neiman Marcus). Pussycat sounds risqué and Velvet Cherry, a classy drag queen name. Color-wise, while I'm more drawn to bold and dramatic hues, I don't mind looking coy once in a while. Pussycat is a stunning mauve pink and Velvet Cherry, a seductive dark red.
Same iconic packaging, different formula. Consistent with earlier releases, the matte version is housed in dark brown tube with gold trimming. I am extremely nitpicky when it comes to matte lipsticks because while they offer more saturated color and longer wear time, they tend to dry out lips and leave unsightly cracks. Tom Ford Lip Color Matte is changing the landscape zillas! Both Pussycat and Velvet Cherry exceeded my expectations. They are opaque in one pass, feel creamy and never drying. This is also the kind of lipstick that you put on and forget about it. Unless you are devouring one greasy main course, it won't rub off or feather out, guaranteed. Wear time is six hours, give or take.
No shine but all glory. While I love the subtle luminosity of Tom Ford Lip Color and balm-like feel of Tom Ford Lip Color Sheer, my lipstick-obsessed self has fallen madly in love with Tom Ford Lip Color Matte. Guess you can't take out the 90s in me girly.
Here's a swatch comparison for your better appreciation (reviews are linked):
Finally, let's see Pussycat and Velvet Cherry in action...
Do you like matte lipsticks too? if so, what's you current go-to?

ReplyDeleteI am a TF lipstick addict...started with Blush Nude when they originally launched in the White Tubes & a large collection has rapidly ensued....if you are lucky enough to own a TF lipstick, even Guerlain,YSL & Chanel don't compare! Like you, as much as I love the original formula & also appreciate the sheers, I just adore this matte range. I picked up 'pussycat' & the rapidly sold out 'first time' & love both. Seeing 'velvet cherry' here makes me think I should get that too (& I never wear red!) as it looks great matte...hey I may even go completely out of my comfort zone & get 'black dahlia'....if its still around!
